Thanks Fred - It just didn`t seem complete without a lantern.I robbed it from a model of the Friesland which is a Dutch design. Thanks also Alexander - I have 9 kits waiting in the closet so I will have to think about it for a while.I may continue on with the Corel kit which I started about the same time as the Sergal kit.I only got as far as the first planking.Even though the Sergal kit is wrong in some respects it`s still a much better kit than the Corel - the cast figures are awful.I may try to see if I can find the figures from the Billings kit which are much better even if they are plastic.

So you will build another Vasa? Or is it another ship?

I am leaning towards continuing on with the Corel Vasa while at the same time starting on the Royal William from Euromodel which will be a big project.

Congratulations Mark on your finished Sergal Vasa. I think that you can be very proud of your work.
I like the job you did on the shrouds and ratlines. Their coloring, knots and the uniform slack in the ratlines looks excellent and, unexpectedly, I have found that the shrouds/ratlines are among the first things that catch the eye of viewers of my own Sergal Vasa. I see you included the topgallant masts which makes for a tall model. Are you going to build or buy a display case? I have a case on order with some clever ideas for safely handling the large model and heavy case, and I can share these ideas with you if you are interested.
Regards, Shel

Thanks very much Shel - sorry I didn`t get back to you sooner.I must admit to cheating a little on the ratlines - I just used square knots. That seems to be the only way I can get the proper looking slack in them & you can`t really tell they are not clove hitches unless you get really, really close. There will be no display case - don`t have the room.I have a small compressor that I use to occasionally blow the dust off.I am probably going to continue with the Corel version - the first layer of planking is already done.I plan to try and fix some of the errors I made on the Sergal kit.The only real problem is the awful figures that Corel provides.I tried to buy the fitting kit for the Billing version which includes much better figures even though they are plastic, but the fitting kit is apparently not available anymore. It is listed as available on the Billing Boats USA web site but when I tried to order it they sent me to the U.S.distributor & they said it was not available so I will just have to use the Corel figures.I wouldn`t even attempt to try & carve them.

Mark, I've had good results from www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk when nothing else worked to get replacement parts. I also bought a Corel Vasa kit before deciding on the Sergal. I'll never build it and it is still mostly complete. If you need any replacement parts from it and I'll send them to you (no charge of course). Shel
