I'm working on the deck details for the Billings Vasa kit and I've stumbled across a discrepancy I'm hoping someone can help me resolve. The kit plans show a second set of catheads between the first and second gunports on the fore-deck. The actual ship and the 1:10 model show a rectangular hole where I assume the catheads pass through, but they are not mounted. Any information on whether they should be there or not?
thanks, mark

Hi Mark! I wonder if you mean the penterbalk? It's the moveable part used for holding the anchor. Here's how I did mine: /Matti

Thanks Matti - yes that's what the Billings plans call for. I didn't see them on the actual ship or the 1:10 so I wasn't sure whether they were supposed to be there.

Hi Mark! I think there is only one. Check out Alexanders thread. One of the pictures show it positioned on the real ship. Here's Alexander's thread. warshipvasa.freeforums.net/thread/63/wasavarvet-1978Look at pic 14 and 17. Edit: Here is a drawing by Landström: /Matti

Thanks for the information everyone. Looks like there was only one and it was moved from side to side as needed.

mar3kl, You are right. Fish-davit was the only one. Its end are formed so as to allow it to be used on either side of the ship, with a groove at right angles to its length to take a fastening inboard and an obliquely set groove to take the tackle.
