On existing models I've seen several different ways to attach the cannon breeching ropes to the bulwarks. One is to double the rope back through a ring bolt and seize it. Another is to tie a knot around the ring bolt. A third is to pass one end of the rope through the ring bolt and knot the end of the rope so it cannot pass through the ring bolt anymore. Any idea which would have been the correct way on ships of the time?

Here at picture #55 and following you can see how the Vasamuseet rigged the cannons at the large reconstruction of the gundeck. Hope you see how they managed it. To me it looks like a bowline knot which connects the breeching rope to a ring. Cheers, Alexander

I assume you mean at the wasa dream site? I think you're right - bowline with the loop around the ring. Thanks for the pointer!

Cheers, Alexander Here's another one, if it helps: farm6.static.flickr.com/5509/14101357059_25f31ebb47_z.jpgTo me, it looks they did both tie a knot and seize it. /Peter
