To Clayton or anyone: Hello Clayton,
On your 1:50 model foremast do the topmast futtock shrouds attach to the deadeyes or is there a futtock plate involved? Where and how do the shrouds or plates penetrate the rings or floor of the crow's nest? Are your answers the same for the main and mizzen mast masts? Your rigging pictures are invaluable to me.

I am happy that my pictures help Shel! On my model, the shrouds for the topmasts are secured with lower deadeyes that have a piece of brass wire that is painted flat black bent around their edges to form a strop. The wire on the bottom side of the deadeye forms a ring more or less that has the end of a piece of brass bent around it that also goes down through a hole in the lower, thickest rail of the top. The lower end of this piece of brass is rounded and has a hole in it to take the upper end of the futtock shrouds. I am quite sure that this set up is very similar to how the futtock shrouds at full scale would have been put together. A couple pictures might help:

Clayton has the arrangement spot on. In addition, there is an iron reinforcement plate at each hole. See the attached reconstruction drawing. Fred Hocker

Very nice drawing Fred! I did not know about the iron plates that reinforce the rail.
