Greetings everyone! My name is Mark & I am currently building the Sergal kit of the Vasa. Some of you know me from the MSW forum. The hull is pretty much finished & have started on the masts. The build is currently on hold due to having shoulder surgery so I thought I would post some pictures.A lot of changes were made to the kit to make it a little closer to correct although there are still numerous inaccuracies.
I think you have done some very nice work especially on the stern galleries' tower decorations. I just completed my Sergal Vasa and I'll post some pictures of it soon. I did post some hull pictures on the Pictures board in 10/13.
I really like your paint job! When I painted my little 1:144 scale Airfix Vasa, I thought that painting all of these little sculptures was quite relaxing. Probably even more so on something bigger like yours.
All of those sculptures is one of the reasons I will probably never build a wooden Vasa model! I am constatnly impressed by people who manage to power through it, whether they are carving all of figures by hand as Clayton did or just painting and fitting plastic or brass mouldings, as Mark did. I have been following his build on MSW and been impressed by his steady progress and solutions. Fred
Haven`t been to this site for awhile so I thought I had better do a little catching up.Masts are done & standing rigging started.Lower & topmast shrouds done & some stays started.I know my standing rigging is pretty dark but I prefer it this way - I like the contrast between the dark standing & light running rigging .
the scallop pattern on the gallerys is not paint - I cut the design out of paper card stock with a leather hole punch & glued them on.Not perfectly accurate but there is no way I could paint it evenly.I also didn`t realise the color was pale yellow - not white.Too late to change the color now.
