Hi everyone.
In constructing the masts of a Billings Boat Vasa, the kit Rigging Plans indicate that the mid Foremast and mid section Mainmast (and higher mast sections), simply have a hole drilled through the spar to run the halliard from the deck belaying point, to attach to the relevant supported spar. This appears in the middle and upper sections of these mast parts. Pulleys are included for the lowest mast sections. On the original ship I would have expected pulleys to be used rather than a 'hole' drilled through the mast section.
Can anyone throw some light on how this would have actually been configured - holes or pulleys?
Thanks,
Peter

Since the upper masts did not survive, it is not possible to say definitively, but archaeological finds from other ships indicate that there would be a sheave in a slot for the halliards.

Many thanks Fred. This does clarify it, even if the actual data from evidence is not available.
