Hello,
I am very happy that I discovered this site, specific to the Vasa.
Matti was the one who shared this link from one of his posts at MSW. Big thanks Matti.
A few personal thoughts, if I might. I have been seriously working on this Corel kit since February 013. Though it sat in my closet for several years. I initially started the build "straight out of the box".
As we all know the Corel has some very unfortunate incorrectly designed hull shaping errors specifically;
The stern
The bow (where the bowsprit enters)
Missing leading edge upper deck forward cannons
Bow upper side railing angles
As well as other less important errors.
These are inaccuracies that could have been "fixed" had I educated myself before the start of the project.
Fast forward to 013; I then started researching Vasa information, and, of course, I discovered the most astonishing example (Clayton's stunning work of art).
I build many reference folders specific to certain parts of the Vasa. I have every jpg that has ever been available of Clayton's, the 1:1, and the 1:10th.
Then, I received the Vasa Museum plan set, I purchased several books, including the Hocker, Landström, and Vasa I references (excited about Vasa II (rigging and sails) perfect timing for next year (:-)
I joined MSW in Feb 013 and got much more serious, including fixing some errors from my original effort. I also learned so much by looking at, reading other builders logs, their techniques, and their amazing photos. Some of which were Vasa builds.
Then I just joined you folks. Vasa 24/7 who could ask for anything more? I have been ciber friends with Matti, JanV, and, Ulises.
Now to think that I will be able to also occasionally communicate directly with Clayton; so great. AND with Fred Hocker (love your book) well, nothing could be better.
I don't "do" long meandering posts, but just wanted to say hello. In closing I include a few pics of where I am so far with this build. I thank you all in advance for laboring through this too long hello (:-)
PS: When I lived in London ion the mid 90s I flew to Stockholm specifically to visit the Vasa Museum. Wonderful experience. I need to return, as I'm sure that over the last decade or so much has been improved.
PS2: the weather deck gratings were removed and correctly re-interpreted, as is noted on the mid-deck photo.
PS3: Yes, a lot of errors are still there. Too late to fix (:-(
Regards
,
Michael
