Thanks for the update Fred.
And enjoy your vacation. If you are in Connecticut, I would be glad to take you to Mystic Seaport or to a good restaurant. Duff

Dear Fred, I am both impressed and dismayed: impressed that you will be building a model and dismayed that you will be building a model. Your immense knowledge and technical abilities are a tremendous asset best used to complete the 4 volume tome already started, plus further investigation and documentation of the actual Vasa. One can argue that building an accurate model accomplishes the second goal but completing the tome can only be done by you. I hope you are not spreading yourself too thinly.
My very best regards, Duff

Tack~!!!! Thanks~!!!! What an outstanding outline, Fred. I have great memories of my meeting with you in Stockholm, our exchange of information and brief discussion of this upcoming volume. Would Ward be the student assisting you in the measurement of the anchors (the student I met in June 2013? I wish I had met others at the museum, especially Eve Marie Stolt and Carl Olaf Cederlund. Would your operation consider making a slip case for Vol 1? It would match the new volume and subsequent volumes.
Thank you again and Happy New Year!

Hello, I am fortunate in having acquired an English translation of the captioned book. Mr. Landstrom was a master artist in this genre and has been and continues to be a major source of inspiration to me. Even though he made a few 'errors' such as the color of the topsides, this site and others continue to improve our knowledge of this very famous ship. Fred and others continue the study and publication of new findings, and I eagerly await book II of his series.
I highly recommend getting a copy of Mr. Landstrom's book. His artistry is amazing.

Thank you Clayton, this 'kit' was a real challenge because of the complex rigging, extensive frieze designs, and numerous upgrades I made based on reference materials from Anderson, Boudriot, and Snyder (he wrote an excellent 2 part article for NRJ Vol 48:4). I also developed a new technique for making the sails out of high grade paper which I plan to describe in detail for one of the boat magazines. These were so much effort that I decided to make only four, but a balanced rig. NRG put several pix on their website that you might visit.
Nevertheless, my first passion is wood, and I have made ships with this medium, plus I have several others started - in wood, scratch. My d'Haelve Maen is at the deck planking stage, the hull planking is 60% done and some of the deck furniture is ready. When I launch it, my next build is the 'Vulture' by Antscheryl. Or maybe the Oliver Cromwell, or the Sir Edward Hawke, or an English 32' launch by Passaro. One of my goals is to start carvings, like your avatar above. Hmmm, I better get to the shop. Duff

Hi Clayton, I agree with Ulises, your efforts for this site are commendable and appreciated~! Well done.
BTW, I just changed my avatar to a photo of my Le Soleil Royal, a Heller kit, heavily modified with references to R. C. Anderson, Jean Boudriot, and Richard H. Snyder who wrote an excellent 2 part article for the Nautical Research Journal - Rigging French Men of War 1670 - 1690, NRJ 48:4 & 49:1.
